ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hullo there! I’m Jade, a Lincoln based illustrator and comic artist. I really like tea, dogs and old books.
I graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2011 with a first class honours degree in Illustration, and I started self-publishing my teastained comic series Cafe Suada shortly after that. My style is a fusion of British roots with Japanese influences, and combines digital and traditional techniques. In 2013 I was nominated for Best Emerging Talent in the British Comic Awards, and in 2014 I won the Myriad Editions First Graphic Novel competition with an extract from my graphic novel For the Love of God, Marie!, published July 2016.
I’m also a keen exhibitor, workshop leader and charicaturist and I can often be found at comic events such as Comic Con, Thoughtbubble, Comiket and others.
I intended to upload this earlier but a package arrived and I spent all morning squeeing over its contents. Probably going to do the same tomorrow when KHBBS gets here >.<
Anywho. Was discussing old cartoons with 3os_knight the other day and I ended up watching something called Cybersix. If you haven't seen it, DO EET NOW, the romantic tension in that show is unbelievable XD Not to mention the brilliant animation.
I've moved onto Venture Bros now, god help me heh. What kind of cartoons are you guys into? I love me some old school 90's stuff like Peter Pan and the Pirates or Gummi Bears XD And Adult Swim stuff like SUPERJAAAAIL. Feel free to have a cartoon rant, you guys! ;D
hehe Robert looks like he's going to come out with some Iroh-ish comment XD 'Theres a simple honour in poverty' I feel like he would be saying as he is served his free-loaded tea :P
Wow I've never seen Cybersix before, but the animation looks so smooth. Also I really like the character designs, they look very European style, very slick and well observed!
Haha right now we have Nicktoons on all the time, and are getting a steady helping of Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life and Ivader Zim (all in a row from 9pm onwards!)
I found Nickelodian did the best cartoons though :) My fave was definitely As Told BY Ginger, a real classic which I still love now! Also in terms of real retro cartoons, I love the old 60s British stuff, like Ivor the Engine and Mr. Ben. They have a very subtle charm not which is not approached in modern day cartoons!
And of course there are some modern western cartoons which are turning out to be amazing, such as Misadventures of Flapjack, and as I mentioned above...Avatar really is the best western cartoon I've ever seen, (not to mention the best modern fantasy besides LotR I've seen cartoon or not!). Great characters, nicely built up/pacing, very good writing, so funny, and its great to see interesting philosophies such as Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism and Taoism being put in there. And they've made a perfect example of what works in a good fantasy by basing their world on real cultures and therefore creating a very founded and intricate world <3 /Iloveavatarrant!!
